Our Woodworking Techniques
We offer a selection of high quality unique items
hand-made from North American and exotic solid woods.
- Our selection of wood
encompasses a wide range of native North American timbers and exotic woods.
- We use only solid woods.
No veneering, plywood or composite materials are even considered.
All items are cut, fitted, glued and finished in the workshop.
- Items offered by AB Fine Woods are unique.
Each item is hand-made in a single version or a small batch with the exceptional attention
to detail. We use hand tools and usual small workshop power tools. No factory production methods are used.
- We use only high quality furnishings;
usually solid brass, either extruded or cast.
We will not use plated nickel, steel or plastic.
- Our woods are usually not stained.
The beauty of our products lies in the natural colour and grain of the wood itself. We may occasionally
use light staining to enrich or even colour of the piece.
Any staining for design purposes will be explicitly stated in the product description.
- We do not use lacquers, varnishes or paints:
all products are meticulously hand polished and then hand-rubbed with oils to a beautiful finish.
Oils are applied by hand several times to build up the finish. Finally, the outside is buffed with wax.
We achieve a lustrous sheen by finishing with high grit polish, as high as 1000.
The oils used are pure or polymerized tung oil and Danish oil.
- Due to the long process
of making a quality item by hand, it can take a significant amount of time to complete an item.
A jewelry box can take between one and three months.
